Occasionally, we all need some time away from–all of it.
Since my last post during June 2018 I’ve rethought what it means to be an artist and also the business of art.
Art
From the artistic perspective, I’ve also done a lot of experimenting by participating in a self-imposed 100 Day Challenge in writing that was suggested by the actions of artist Jo Cleary and her own violin challenge.
At the end of 2018 November I completed my 100 Day Challenge–the start of a new story everyday. During that time, I created 34 new projects in 9 categories:
- Books
- Business
- Comics
- Fashion design
- Live performances
- Movies
- Music
- Photoshoots
- Poetry
Equally important, I have a new artistic strategy in place that intentionally limits the number of projects I work on each year. My mission is to start and complete less projects while continuing to increase the quality of each project in concept, storytelling, and execution.
Business
Susan volunteered to review all of the content on my website which then led her to ask me many questions about my business focus.
The bottom-line: I’ll be creating more “How To” and “Behind-the-Scenes” work that will help you to succeed based on my successes and failures. Particularly around the idea: “I wish I had known that 5 years ago.”
My motivation is to help inspire and educate other artists.
But, it’s not completely altruistic–the world needs more artists. And I need to hire more artists for the many projects that my 100 Day Challenge spun off.
First Project
The first project is a book called Concept | Avant Garde Photography. It’s a behind-the-scenes book that shows and describes How To develop, plan, and execute a unique professional photoshoot that shows a remarkable story. The content is based on 5 years of my selected work.
