But he was really a storyteller who expressed himself through visual media. His work is something I’ve aspired to ever since coming across the beauty of 2001: a Space Odyssey. The story telling in A Clockwork Orange. And the suspense of The Shining. The latter being one of the very few books that has translated well to a film script.
What story do these three films tell? Kubrick was always interested in letting the viewer decide for themselves, but he clearly had a multi-level approach to storytelling.
